Job Title: Online/Virtual School-Based Counselor, AMFT, ACSW, APCC, AMHC, etc.

Job Types: Part time 15-30 client hours/week, Virtual (with potential to move into full time)

Pay: $32.00 per hour

Start date: July 30th (training), Aug 20th (sessions begin). 

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental health counselor to join our team as an

Online 100% virtual School-Based Counselor. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting

students' mental health and well-being, providing therapeutic interventions, and collaborating

with school staff and families.

 

 

Qualifications:

- Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or related field from an accredited program.

- 1) Valid California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) Marriage and Family

Therapist (AMFT) Associate License number; OR

2) Valid California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) Associate Clinical Social

Worker (ACSW) number; OR

3) Valid California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) Associate Professional Clinical

Counselor (APCC) number

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively

with school staff, families, and community partners.

- Proficiency in using technology for online counseling sessions and electronic record-keeping.

- Commitment to cultural competence, equity, and inclusion in mental health practice.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a remote work

environment.

-Valid CA Driver’s license, working car (dependent upon face to face services availability), and

ability to pass Livescan and TB clearance is required.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct individual, group, parent, and family therapy sessions with students enrolled in online

school programs.

- Assess and evaluate students' emotional, social, and behavioral needs using standardized

assessments and clinical interviews.

- Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to students' unique needs and goals.

- Provide crisis intervention and support for students experiencing acute mental health issues or

trauma.

- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, case managers and other school personnel to address

students' academic and emotional needs in the online learning environment.

- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians to provide updates on students' progress and

collaborate on treatment goals.

- Maintain accurate and confidential electronic records of counseling sessions and student

progress.

- Participate in regular supervision and training to enhance clinical skills and stay abreast of best

practices in online school-based counseling.

 

Skills & Experience

Required:

  • Active and unrestricted California Associate license as an AMFT, ACSW, APCC, or equivalent.

  • Strong foundational skills in individual counseling, crisis intervention, and case management.

  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible school-based caseload.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills when working with students, families, and school staff.

  • Commitment to supporting students with diverse needs, including those in Special Education (SPED).

  • Strong organizational skills and timely documentation practices.

Preferred but Not Required:

  • Experience working in a school-based or educational setting.

  • Familiarity with IEPs, 504 Plans, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Background or interest in working with children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, or developmental challenges.

  • Comfort navigating school environments and adapting therapeutic approaches to fit the school context.
