Although bisexual+ individuals (including those who identify as bisexual, pansexual, queer, fluid, etc.) make up over 50% of the lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) community (Jones, 2024; 2025), they often face unique forms of invisibility and bias—especially those who also hold marginalized racial or ethnic identities. Research has shown that bisexual+ people report higher rates of negative psychological and sexual well-being compared to other sexual identity groups (Brownfield & Brown, 2020; Clark et al., 2025).

Bisexual+ people of color (Bi+POC) frequently experience added challenges, such as feeling tension between their racial/ethnic and sexual identities (Ghabrial & Ross, 2018). These tensions are often shaped by intersecting minority stressors found in LGBTQ+ spaces, within their racial/ethnic communities, and even in clinical settings (Berry & Lezos, 2016; DeLucia & Smith, 2021; Niki, 2017).

To support the sexual wellness of Bi+POC clients, counselors must understand the intersecting histories and ongoing impacts of biphobia and racism. This presentation will explore these systemic and historical factors, highlighting their continued influence on the mental and sexual well-being of bisexual+ people of color. Attendees will learn to recognize common clinical microaggressions and develop strategies to provide competent, evidence-based, and identity-affirming care for Bi+POC clients.

Zoom link will be available on course page in “My Courses” upon event registration.
