Our mission at The Start to Happy Foundation is to promote and support the mental well-being of individuals and communities. We strive to reduce stigma and increase awareness around mental health issues, as well as provide education, resources, and support for those affected by mental health disorders. Through advocacy, collaboration, and community outreach, we aim to improve access to mental health care and services, and empower individuals to lead fulfilling and productive lives. Our ultimate goal is to create a world where mental health is prioritized, and all individuals are able to live their lives to the fullest.

WHAT WE DO

We provide services for individuals, couples, families through counseling, group counseling, workshops, classes, and community events.

 

Position Description: Our practicum students play an important role in supporting the work of The Start to Happy Foundation by gaining hands-on experience in the field of mental health.

·  Observing and Assisting: Our practicum students often start by observing and familiarizing themselves with the organization's programs and services. They may shadow experienced therapists, observe counseling sessions or group therapy sessions, and gain a deeper understanding of the population being served.

·  Supporting Interventions: As you gain more experience and knowledge, you may have opportunities to actively support interventions and therapy sessions. Under the supervision of a licensed professional, you may assist in facilitating group therapy sessions, conduct assessments or screenings, or provide basic counseling support to clients.

·  Participating in Team Meetings: You will often be included in team meetings, where you can contribute your perspectives, share observations, and learn from the collective wisdom of the team. These meetings may involve case discussions, treatment planning, or program evaluation.

·  Documentation and Administrative Tasks: You will have to complete documentation tasks, such as progress notes, treatment plans, or case summaries, as required by the organization. You will also assist with administrative duties like scheduling appointments, maintaining client records, or organizing educational materials.

·  Professional Development: Practicum placements are valuable opportunities for students to develop their professional skills and knowledge. You will receive supervision and guidance from experienced mental health professionals, engage in ongoing training, attend workshops or seminars, and receive feedback on your performance.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake assessments, assist in developing treatment plans, and provide individual or group therapy sessions under the supervision of licensed mental health professionals.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure comprehensive and client-centered care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client sessions and progress.
  • Attend regular supervision meetings and participate in case conferences.
  • Contribute to ongoing program evaluation and quality improvement efforts.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in the field of mental health.

 

 

 

Skills & Experience

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a master's program in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field, with a focus on mental health.
  • Completed coursework in theories and techniques of counseling or therapy.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and ethical approach to counseling, ensuring client confidentiality and boundaries.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to manage time efficiently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional growth.
  • Able to see clients in the office and attend in-person supervision. We will consider a hybrid practicum for the right fit in our practice.
