POSITION: Behavioral Health Technician (Full-Time Regular)

SCHEDULE:  8-hour shifts

LOCATION: Canoga Park, CA. (In-Person)

SALARY: $17.00 - 23.00 (hourly) BOE

We invite you to join our team of health care professionals.  We are seeking Behavioral Health Technicians to join our team and provide support to individuals struggling with mental health disorders.  The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the delivery of treatment services in cooperation with the mental health professional staff members.

Key Responsibilities

DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Program Directorthe Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) position supervises clients to ensure a physically and emotionally safe environment. The Behavioral Health Technician will provide an environment for clients, that allows for progress towards treatment goals, emotional growth, academic success, and positive relationships.  Assist new clients in becoming acclimated to the program.  Responsible for supervising and monitoring clients.  Other duties may include taking attendance, supporting life skills and other educational and process groups, participation on field trips or excursions, therapeutic groups and workshops, Client move-in and moves, food preparation, monitoring the residence housekeeping needs, and other program activities as requested.  Behavioral Health Technicians will assist in providing transportation of clients as directed. Performs other assignments or duties as required and/or requested.

The BHT takes full responsibility for client care on his/her shifts and is responsible for handling all medical emergencies, under the supervision of the Program Director, Therapist, or Medical Director, with regards to client's care protocols. The Behavioral Health Technician is instrumental in supporting the client through their recovery per the Doctor's orders. The Behavioral Health Technician supports the education of the client about his/her condition. The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible to provide detailed and accurate clinical reporting of client conditions and status and proper clinical actions, including detoxification protocols and medication management/self-administration of medication management protocols. The Behavioral Health Technician requires strong attention to detail, the ability to make sound decisions and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Skills & Experience

QUALIFICATIONS: The following are the qualifications required to perform the essential functions of this position. Qualifications may be subject to modification based on the Americans with Disabilities Act. 

  • Must have a High school diploma or equivalency. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in a Joint Commission compliant setting, such as in a hospital, medical or detox/recovery environment, or residential social rehabilitation facility.
  • Ability to read and understand the English language.
  • Graduate of an accredited certification program for Mental Health Disorders desirable.  Such as CBHT, or CMHT.
  • Possesses a current and valid CPR and First Aid certificate.
  • Must have valid California driver’s license and liability insurance if driving a personal vehicle on duty.
  • Able to stand, stoop, bend squat and reach for purpose of performing job duties such as handling materials stocked on shelves, filing, and lifting.
  • Routinely lift and move items weighing up to twenty-five pounds; is expected to ask for assistance and use a dolly or cart for any heavy items.
  • Vision, hearing, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination must be adequate for the performance of job duties.
  • Experienced in the self-administration medication process.  Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of withdrawal, seizures, pain, high anxiety, low and high blood sugars, or a critically dangerous medical emergency.  Ability to perform cooking and cleaning duties.

Able to stand and walk most of the working day and to physically perform other job duties. Duties may require occasional use of a stool or small ladder. Specific qualifications may vary based on the assignment.
