Job Description

The Associate Therapist provides outpatient mental health services to children, adolescents, adults, and/or families within a supportive, growth-oriented private practice setting. This role focuses on delivering ethical, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care while working toward independent licensure. Associates receive clinical supervision, consultation, and professional development opportunities to support clinical competence and career advancement.

The position requires active registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) and adherence to all applicable legal, ethical, and professional standards. Therapists collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a positive, client-centered therapeutic environment. This position requires a minimum of 2 days onsite in the Atascadero office each week.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy services consistent with scope of practice and training
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with agency, legal, and payer requirements
• Participate in regular clinical supervision and consultation to support professional development and licensure progress
• Develop and implement treatment plans that reflect client goals, clinical assessment, and evidence-based practices
• Manage a consistent caseload and maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards
• Collaborate with caregivers, community partners, and other providers when clinically appropriate
• Maintain compliance with California BBS regulations, mandated reporting requirements, and confidentiality standards
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development opportunities

Skills & Experience

Required:

• Current registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (AMFT, ACSW, or APCC)
• Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related behavioral health field
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, child and family systems, and ethical clinical practice
• Strong clinical judgment, organizational skills, and professional communication
• Ability to manage documentation requirements and maintain productivity expectations
• Commitment to professional growth and progress toward licensure

Preferred:

• Experience providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and/or families
• Training or interest in evidence-based or trauma-focused modalities (e.g., CBT, EMDR, play therapy)
• Bilingual skills (Spanish)
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team-based practice environment
